How to Replace Missing Clawfoot Tub Feet

Some of our orphan clawfoot tub feet
Unfortunately, finding a set of feet to fit a vintage claw-foot tub is going to be difficult. There are literally dozens of different designs for mounting feet to tubs. While we normally do have some loose feet, it is rare that we have a matching set of four. And even more rare that those would be the exact match to your footless tub.

The easiest way for us to try to get you a set of feet is if you have at least one of the old feet that could be compared with what we have on hand.
If you don't have any feet it will be very difficult. We can usually tell from the mounts on the bottom of the tub what type of foot you might need, however hauling the tub around is impractical. The best solution is to send us (or another salvage yard) a picture of either an existing foot or the bottom of the tub. Also cut out a cardboard template of the bracket. This will make your search much easier and you will not have to tote your tub around in your quest.
We do sell new foot sets that have straps connecting them together which form a cradle and will support most tubs.
Another alternative is to have a company named Creative Castings make a copy of your existing feet.  They also have a great photo gallery of tub feet!

Good luck!

  1. Maybe you can help us. We bought a refinished clawfoot tub. The feet just slide into groove type brackets on the bottom of the tub. We filled the tub with water and the feet slid out from under the tub! Any ideas on what we did wrong? I'm scared to try it again.

    2. You are missing a retaining clip that bolts to the flat, beveled piece of the foot, once it is mounted on the tub. The clip has a protruding tab on each side that keeps the foot from sliding out under the weight of the tub. If you can't find the clips at a local salvage yard, a good metal shop should be able to make new ones for you.

    3. Does anyone have pictures of what these look like? We just experienced this problem! Our tub has no bolts or bolt holes on the feet to attach to the tub.

  6. We recently purchased a tub, once the guy that was going to sand blast and repaint the tub got it he brought to my attention that the clip that secured the foot in one spot was broken off. He is afraid to weld due to over heating and damaging the porcleain. Any ideas how to fix the bracket?

  7. I had a similar situation with a clawfoot tub - missing most of the clips so the tub teetered on 4 feet for about 5 seconds before slamming down onto the tile. I had a metal fabricator make the clips that were missing, and it seems sturdy although it hasn't been used. I'm very gun-shy on filing it with hundreds of pounds of water and human only to have a real disaster on my hands if these feet give out. Is there any kind of support product that sits underneath the tub, out of view doing the hard work of holding the tub in place, while the 100 year old feet are just the decorative component that you see?

  8. Got a tub it's finished but the legs are not fitting as we would expect. Flush againist the bowl of the tub. These legs have no bolt hole they slide into the grooves but do not gonall the way. Did we get sold a tub with the wrong legs? There doesn't seem to be any swirls as if the tub had bolts at one time either. I can send pics if you can help.
